East Kootenay's 4th Annual Event Cache PDF Print E-mail

To absolutely everyone out there, :D

It is that time again all you Geocachers, newbie Geocachers and possible Geocachers. This year’s event cache (#4) will be held at the same place as last year, Wapiti Lake campground just outside of Cranbrook, B.C. in the East Kootenays. The date is August 5th, 6th, and 7th, which are a Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. This campground is not overly large, in just one area, but it is spread out. I am hoping that we can get most of the area before muggles arrive to camp there , which I’ve been informed may happen as this is a really nice area which the attendees from last year know. There were a few muggles about but no one interfered with us and ours. Last year there were only two (2) poopers and I have not had the opportunity to see if there was any more installed which would be nice. I hope to scoot out to this area very soon (when more snow melts), to find out about this but even with just two (2) poopers, everything came out fine. :D I like to arrive before the actual date of the event so I can “TRY” to keep as much of the camping area as possible. Last year there was no problem with availability for any type of set up for camping including a fifth wheel trailer. For those that attended the previous year, I will of course be situated in my camping home at the same spot as I was last year (coords to follow).
To locate the area where many things will be happening, where you can meet other Geocachers, and is sure to be fun in the sun :D; if you are coming from Cranbrook, turn off the main highway (#3) at approximately 49°24.045N and 115°22.611W. There is a cache “RIGHT” there too (Rosicky), and as of last year’s event cache (2005), there are more caches in the surrounding area and I hope to put more out before this year’s event cache too. :D If you are coming from Fernie way, turn off the main highway (#3) at approximately 49°24.085N and 115°22.269W. I will post some kind of signs at each turn off that may have some balloons tagged onto them as well. Once you are on the secondary highway, (Rosicky road), make the turn to get to the camping area (there are a couple turns so this is only one), at approximately 49°23.767N and 115°21.883W. I will be camped at approximately 49°23.125N and 115°21.758W, which are the coords for the event cache site. The roads in are pretty good however there are a few wee bumps and jiggles along the way but even a large motor home can make it. :D

Just a couple of games and things I have planned include a crossword puzzle (timed), I devised this myself on the subject of Nature, how many marbles in a glass (the correct amount or the closest without going over), and I am thinking I will continue doing the decryption key and the Q and A’s (both timed). Last year there was a continuous cache to find and rehide (not timed :D and thanks to Chet for devising this ingenious cache hide/find), and I still have the actual container and all the goodies that were last in it from last year so we will do that again too as I believe all had fun with it. I may add more info on this cache page in the future or I may just spring it on you out there  so keep a watch on this page once it is on Geocaching.com or the other sites where you can read the info. :D I “may” also do another Geoscav (so bring some weird stuff) as well as I “may” do something pertaining to fishing.

There will be a 50/50 draw and some Geopoker fun too as usual. I have not decided if I am going to hide the poker cards yet, deal them out myself, have them ready in individual envelopes, or just have you draw your cards when you arrive. The 50/50 tickets are one (1) for $.50 or three (3) for a dollar, each Geopoker hand is $5.00, and of course, the highest hand wins. Sorry but you must be in attendance when the 50/50 draw and the Geopoker hands take place. This will be when most everyone is present which I am thinking will probably be the same day as the potluck lunch/dinner or when all present agrees to when these draws and such should take place. Please feel free to post your thoughts on this on the cache page when it becomes available at Geocaching.com (or on the other sites where this info is available for you to post on), or email me at as input is welcomed. I like to try to make everyone happy when it comes to the event caches but I can only do so much.

As usual, there will be a potluck lunch/dinner (as stated above), which I have yet to determine what day to have it on (but more than likely the Saturday as it has turned out to be in the previous years, I think:oops:). If you plan to attend the pot luck lunch/dinner please post a note on this cache page on Geocaching.com saying what food item you will be bringing so we do not have too many of one thing. Please also include how many in your party will be attending and thanks.

Some of the prizes consist of cache goodies as well as some blankets I made (but not as many as last year ). I also have a special blanket particularly for this year’s event cache, which, if there are interested parties, I would like to raffle off, and the proceeds will be going to next year’s event cache. Stay tuned to see a photo of this particular blanket (once I finish it) on most, if not all of the sites where this event cache info is available. Rambleon is contributing five (5) of our new Kootenay Cachers Geocoins for prizes and Scottie is contributing this year’s event cache Geobuttons for all the attendees this year and many thanks guys.

Finally yet importantly, a stats update on the previous event caches that I organized (with help from others :D). In 2003 (#1), 21 Geocachers attended; in 2004 (#2), 24 Geocachers attended, and for 2005 (#3), 28 to 30 attended (and some of you did not sign the guest book but I will getcha this year ). I believe all had a good time at all the events no matter if we could not have a fire as in 2003 or it rained and rained in 2004 and in 2005 some of us were chasing the shade as it was sooo hot. The attendance just keeps going up and up each year. :D

Last but of course, not least (and you know there had to be at least one more thing for me to say ), I am hoping to meet more Geocachers that I have yet to meet (put faces to names), as well as seeing the Geocachers that I have already met who attended the previous event caches. Please feel free to email me at if you have any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions. Also, for those that have access to a phone on the roadway on the way here; if you feel you may run into some problems as in, not too sure where to find this camping site or if you think you may encounter some vehicle problems, please email me (before you leave). I will give you my cell number so that when you are on the road, and if (God forbid), something happens, you can call me and things will get figured out. I hate to see or hear about ANYONE having ANY kind of problems.

Thank you in advance to all the contributors and to those that will attend who are contributors themselves. Do not forget to stay tuned as I may do my sneaky stuff and post some new info on the Geocaching.com site when it is available for me to do so. :D
